Notes and Events:
After a break of a year or so, the group is hoping to resume in early 2010. The classes offer people the chance ot meditate together, using the Mindfulness of Breathing and the mettabhavana - i.e. the development of ‘loving-kindness’. Meditations will be guided to the extent that those present at any given time will require, so experienced meditators or novices are equally welcome. Time will also be put aside afterwards to discuss, share meditation experiences, difficulties, etc, also questions on any aspect of Buddhism.

The Preston Serene Reflection Meditation Group was formed in 1994. We meet on Tuesdays at 7.00pm in St Peters Room, St.Johns Minster, Church Street, Preston PR1 3BU. The first time you come, one of our group members will talk with you about our practice and show you how we meditate. Our style of meditation is called "serene reflection meditation" - we are part of the Soto Zen tradition of Buddhism.
The group is affiliated to the Order of Buddhist Contemplatives. The Order is dedicated to the practice of the Serene Reflection Meditation tradition, know as Tsao-Tung Chan in China and Soto Zen in Japan. The Order was established by Rev. Master Jiyu-Kennett to serve as the international umbrella organisation for the monasteries, priories (local temples) and meditation groups led by priests of our lineage in Britain, Canada, Germany, the Netherlands, France and the United States. The group has strong connections with Throssel Hole Buddhist Abbey, a Zen Buddhist monastery and retreat centre situated in Northumberland - its Abbot is Rev. Master Daishin Morgan. Senior members of the monastic community there regularly visit the group and also lead short retreats in Preston. They are also available on request to give private spiritual counselling to group members.

Notes and Events:
Master Xu Yun asked Charles Luk to translate vital Chinese Buddhist texts into English, to help Buddhists in the West. Charles Luk asked Richard to try and keep these translations in the public eye - which he did up until his death. He founded the website to facilitate this idea. On the site are numerous translated texts, designed to help the student wherever they are.
Creating a meditation space, wherever you are is the key practice. This is essential for development. This practice may be augmented by irregular Chan meditation weeks of intense introspection. Such weeks are dependent on the use of suitable facilities, etc. Which are not always available.
The hua tou method is used, whereby one meditates on a question such as Who s hearing? This will eventually lead to a startling discovery!
Peace in the Dharma.

Rissho Kosei-kai is a worldwide Buddhist organization founded in Japan in 1938 by Nikkyo Niwano and Myoko Naganuma. It combines the wisdom of both the Lotus Sutra and the foundational teachings of Shakyamuni Buddha. Its purpose is to bring these transformative teachings to the modern world.
The Lotus Sutra is a teaching of human respect, both the study and practice of a spiritual path that develops human potential, and a way of living that seeks peace for all people. By studying, understanding, integrating, and practicing the teachings, human beings can gradually approach a state of mind free from delusions, thereby enriching their own lives and those of others around them. Because everything is interconnected, when people devote themselves to benefitting all beings through harmony, they create awareness and develop a better world. This is the ideal for practitioners of the Lotus Sutra.

Dear Dhamma - Vinaya friend,
sangham.net "Virtual Dhamma - Vinaya Vihara" is a laity project and a try to erect a virtual Vihara (a monastery which is useable to set out Vinaya procedures) and should be offered to the monastic Sangha later on.
Next to this maybe particular intention this board should be an unforced place to discover Buddha, Dhamma, Sangha and a place to practice, exchange knowledge and experience as well as to study the teachings. After all the main focus is lesser to create something special outwardly but to support each other in regard of the training.
In regard of the general idea on virtuall Vihara, you may find a "general concept" as attached file, which is open to use how ever one wishes to do (the english translation is not very well yet!)
Please in no way hesitate to participate, criticize and contribute!
May all this work here always be free of strong defilement.
Much mudita
Johann
I thought it would be good to mention general attributes to characterise the objectives of this community and the project as objectively as possible. Those collection might be generally useful for everything in relation with all work here:
I try to offer the opposite (what is should not have as objective) as well, as this might be useful to transport the meaning better.
Please feel invited to develop the objectives further as well as to talk about it. Please add if a significant objective is missing. It would be great if we could develop a short introduction for the objectives of "sangham.net" and the virtual Vihara here or support the frame for it.
Objectives (most in relation with the first):
Nibbana - not the world
open - not excluded
independent - not depended
discovering - not covering
exposing - not hiding
accessible - not nonaccessible
supportive - not obstructive
exemplary - not imitative
concomitantly - not authoritarian
circulating - not pocketing
welcoming - not exclusive
uniting - not separative
simple - not luxurious
maybe inspiring in addition:
Recollecting the Sangha
"At any time when a disciple of the noble ones is recollecting the Sangha, his mind is not overcome with passion, not overcome with aversion, not overcome with delusion. His mind heads straight, based on the Sangha. And when the mind is headed straight, the disciple of the noble ones gains a sense of the goal, gains a sense of the Dhamma, gains joy connected with the Dhamma. In one who is joyful, rapture arises. In one who is rapturous, the body grows calm. One whose body is calmed experiences ease. In one at ease, the mind becomes concentrated."
— AN 11.12
"When you recollect the Sangha, monks, any fear, terror, or horripilation you may have will be abandoned."
— SN 11.3
More and actual Infos you may find in Our monastery here - Unser Kloster hier Forum
Liebe Dhamma - Vinaya Freunde,
— AN 11.12
Denn wenn ihr an die Gemeinde denkt, ihr Bhikkhus, wird Angst oder Zittern oder Hautschaudern, das euch befällt, schwinden.
