On the first wednesday of every month we have meditation advice and instruction for beginners. Anyone is welcome and no prior experience is required. Our instructor has 40 years of meditation experience.

On the second wednesday of the month we usually have a speaker from other Buddhist traditions and sometimes from other faiths-our members organise and run other evenings bringing thier own personal experience and interests to the group.

We are a group without any set leader or teacher, we believe that we all have something to teach each other.

Brentwood Buddhist Meditation group is non profit making, all monies go into the running of the group and the organising of events.

We try and hold a retreat weekend open to all members at least once a year.

After showing Al Gores film The Inconvinient Truth to 60 people within our own FWBO sangha we are now planning further events. The aim is in future to address as many Buddhists as possible in the Cambridge area. We want especially to emphasize the connection between our spiritual practise as Buddhists and our common concern for the environment, climate change and related pressing issues.

We are also networking and communicating with other groups and organisations in the Cambridge area who are active in the same areas (e.g. Cambridge Open Forum, and interfaith groups).

For more information, to put you on our mailing list, etc., please contact us via our email address. Also if you are interested to become one of our guest speakers or know somebody who you think might be suitable, please let us know as well.

E-mail: danjones@supanet.com

Notes and Events:

Cambridge Amaravati Group grew from a few local Buddhists, who were interested in the teachings from Amaravati Buddhist monastery near Hemel Hempstead.
They meet fortnightly on Sunday evenings in the members homes to meditate together for about one hour, with a brief Buddhist ceremony beforehand and tea and a chat afterwards. The type of meditation practiced is vipassana or insight meditation. The group functions as a way for meditators to come together, rather than as a taught class, and is open and sociable. Over the years people have joined who are interested in different forms of vipassana meditation, or in different Buddhist traditions altogether. The group also acts as a contact point for people interested in visiting Amaravati, to find out more directly about this sort of meditation and Buddhist way of life.

The grounds of the village hall are lovely.  There are fields with horses, a nice flower garden and lawned area with trees.  If the weather is nice we often meditate and/or practise QiGong outside.  On Days of Mindfulness we walk in noble silence around the fields and woodland that surrounds the hall.
