Tinh Giác is Vietnamese for “Wake Up” and refers to both our initial awakening to the need for a path to help us live deeply and the continuous process of awakening throughout our lives. This name has been given to the group by the Most Venerable Thich Thanh Tu, a meditation master and founder of the modern Truc Lam (Bamboo Forest Lineage) in Vietnam. The name given to us has not been translated literally into English, but has been expressed in the form of a traditional Buddhist image in order to express more poetically the meaning of Tinh Giác.
In order to realise the aspiration inherent in our name we focus on studying and practising the ethical principles of Buddhism (The five precepts), meditation in the Bamboo Forest/Truc Lam tradition, the teachings of the Buddha found in the sutras and the gentle building of a fourfold Sangha.
Buddhist books, DVDs, CDs and audiocassettes are available for a three-week loan from the library.
