Mindfulness Meditation Centre celebrates its 10th year in 2007. We follow the tradition of Thich Nhat Hanh, and in the spirit of his practice, aim to express traditional Buddhist teachings in a way that makes the most sense in our contemporary western world. We work extensively with poetry and song, and creativity is important to many of our Sangha members. MMC has two branches, one in suburban Pointe-Claire, and the other in Downtown Montreal. We like to think of our center as a Buddhist Meditation Cooperative in the sense that Dharma talks are given in turn by 6 leaders under the guidance of Joseph Emet, Dharmacharya

We offer ongoing weekly sessions at two locations, monthly Mindfulness Days, public talks, and evenings of poetry and song.

TWDD meditation originated in Tibetan Buddhist Meditation / Yoga practice. After a process of reforms, a series of public teachings has been developed by Master Hai Kong and has made available to the general public for the first time in history. TWDD represents a powerful tool to unfold our inner peace and to develop true happiness.

During each meditation session, we will give about half hour on-going teaching on " the three principle aspects of the path of true happiness" - a fundamental study set forth for successful meditation practices. Also we will do half hour standing meditation, 45 minutes of sitting meditation, as well as a short QA session.

The essence of TWDD meditation is to preoccupy one’s body, mind and speech with (holding) Mudra, (visualizing) Guru and (speaking) Mantra. In just a matter of 2 hours/per day in up to 7 days, all practitioners will be able to establish the connection to their own Dharma Nature, thereby generating the confidence to continue on the journey of spiritual development.

“Our engagement with society and the environment rests on our quality of being. When that quality is rooted in stillness there is a different ground for subsequent actions and so events take a different course. We simply go home to our true nature. We are very active in this way and bring harmony to those we interact with. The most significant interaction is with our true nature. To connect to its boundless quality in daily life, and then to connect to others and the world in the same way is surely the ticket to ride!”

There are regular meetings for meditation and study every Thursday evening from 7.00pm – 9.00pm.  The first Saturday of every month has a Mindfulness Gathering from 5.00pm – 8.00pm for dharma and a mindful meal. Notes and Events:

The Saint John Shambhala Meditation Group is a local group of meditation practioners inspired by the Shambhala Buddhist teachings of basic goodness and enlightened society.  We are affliated with Shambhala International whose spiritual head is the Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche.

Our community of meditation practioners meets Wednesday evenings at 7:00-9:00 to strengthen our individual practice and learn more about meditation.  We meet in "The Sitting Room" at 42 Wentworth St. near King St. E.  We meditate together for an hour, followed by tea and discussion or contemplation based on selected readings.

Instruction is provided for newcomers in "shamatha" meditation, or the practice of "peaceful abiding".  Meditation is a natural state of the human mind - at rest, open, alert. The basic meditation technique predates all religious traditions, though it is used in one way or another by each of them. Undertaken as a steady practice, meditation allows the mind to relax and settle. It encourages our inherent qualities of stability, clarity and mental strength to emerge.

Occasionally we host weekend meditation programs directed by senior teachers.  These activities are usually coordinated with other Shambhala centers in the Maritime region with whom we share resources and maintain contact.  Please check our website to see if there are any upcoming programs in the near future.
