We are an affiliate center of Karma Triyana Dharmachakra (KTD), the North American seat of His Holiness the Seventeenth Gyalwang Karmapa, Ogyen Trinley Dorje. Albany KTC was established in 1979 by His Holiness the XVI Karmapa, head of the Karma Kagyu Lineage, and is under the spiritual guidance of Ven. Bardor Tulku Rinpoche and Ven. Khenpo Karthar Rinpoche, the resident lamas at KTD.
The Albany KTC community engages in several meditation practices that come out of the tradition of the Karma Kagyu school of Tibetan Buddhism. In addition, we study Tibetan Buddhism together in a group setting by reading texts by teachers of the Karma Kagyu lineage. We also participate in a variety of community service activities, and provide Tibetan language instruction. Finally, we have the good fortune to receive teachings from a host of Karma Kagyu Lineage Buddhist teachers from around the world on a regular basis.

Shambhala vision is rooted in the contemplative teachings of Buddhism, yet is a fresh expression of the spiritual journey for our time.
We offer a large range of classes and events for newcomers, those interested in exploring a full path of practice and study, and our more advanced students. We also host community gatherings and celebrations. We endeavor to put into practice the principles of courage and compassion. This helps us to experience daily life as a constant opportunity for spiritual practice and social service.
Meditation is a natural state of the human mind—at rest, open, alert. Mindfulness meditation is the foundation of all that we do at the Shambhala Center. This ancient practice of self-discovery is rooted in the simple but revolutionary premise that every human being has the ability to cultivate the minds inherent stability, clarity and strength in order to be more awake and compassionate in everyday life.
