Here they were finding the incidence of parentless children and children considered to be living in hard-core poverty’ to be very high. The orphanage thus began as a volunteer- driven initiative, a theme which still continues circa 19 years later, the Orphanage has been very pro-active in seeking help for their project and thus 1997 they wrote a letter to the Buddhist society of W.A seeking assistance as a fellow Buddhist organization. The Buddhist Society decided to support the project but not to run it. Thus its responsibility was taken up by Ms. Judi Rushforth who facilitated and developed the link for 6 years until 2003, when it was handed on to Mr. Scott Andrews from Australia.
