Plum Blossom Zendo, a Pittsburgh Zen Community was formed in 2005 to offer Zen practice to southwestern Pennsylvania residents. We are an affiliate center of Still Mind Zendo, a zen center located in New York City is in the lineage of Maezumi Roshi and the White Plum Asangha. Our principal teacher is Sensei Janet Jiryu Abels, the founder and resident teacher of Still Mind Zendo. Our practice is focused on the needs of lay people who seek to deepen their spiritual practice in the midst of family and career responsibilities. We offer a challenging yet nurturing environment which emphasizes strong zazen (sitting meditation) practice, a robust commitment to realizing our true nature, and careful attention to the present moment within and outside the zendo.

The Two Rivers Zen Community meets at the Court Street Zendo located at 926 Court St., 2nd floor, Honesdale, PA. 18431, at the corner of Tenth Street, across the street from Central Park. Court Street Zendo is formally designated as “Bendowa Temple” “Bendowa” means “Wholehearted Practice of the Way,” which is our emphasis at Two Rivers.
All programs, unless otherwise noted, are open to all at no fee. Voluntary donations are welcomed and gratefully appreciated.

The Zen Sitting Group of Pittsburgh (ZSGP) is a member of the Society of Mountains and Rivers (SMR), a network of Zen Buddhist sitting groups and affiliates of the Mountains and Rivers Order (MRO). The MRO’s spiritual founder and director is John Daido Loori Roshi, abbot of Zen Mountain Monastery in upstate New York.
We meet on alternating Sundays for zazen and a liturgy service. On the second Sunday of each month there will also be a senior’s talk by the group leader, Hogen Green. These talks will focus primarily on the relationship of Zen practice to daily life.
